A woman's body goes through enormous changes during pregnancy and it can significantly affect your overall daily functioning. In many cases discomfort in pregnancy is a normal accepted process. When these changes start to take place, pregnancy pain and discomfort can sometimes occur. Pregnancy and childbirth put additional strain on your body, especially on your back, pelvis, pelvic floor and abdominal muscles. A physiotherapist can help you manage these changes by providing assessment, treatment, education, appropriate exercises and preparation for childbirth. In some cases it can be more than that and physical therapy can help and prepare the pregnant body for an easier delivery and recovery process. This program includes exercises to help prevent incontinence, improve bladder and bowel control , pelvic floor muscle training, urge management strategies, toileting techniques, bladder retraining, coughing, sneezing and bracing techniques, guidance with appropriate lifestyle changes.
