Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation is a program of exercise, education and support for people who have had a heart attack, cardiac surgery, angioplasty and lung diseases. It helps people regain their confidence and exercise safely; gives support and motivation in making any necessary lifestyle changes and ultimately speeds up the process of returning to normal and getting back to work. It helps manage the physical effects and something really vital - how to breathe correctly. A physiotherapist can help by showing how to get rid of mucus using postural drainage, coughing techniques, forced expiratory techniques and autogenic drainage, cope better with asthma attacks using breathing exercises and relaxation techniques and work out an exercise plan to improve quality of life.
