Falls, which include slipping and tripping, are the single largest cause of injury in those over 65 years of age. Exercise plays a crucial role in reducing the risk of falls. This includes strengthening regime, balance and gait training. Another disorder commonly found in the aged population is dementia which is characterized by a loss or decline in memory and other cognitive abilities. The primary focus of rehabilitation for the dementia patient is on compensatory approaches that modify behaviors and/or the physical and social environment to help individuals cope with the disease and continue to participate in everyday activities of living for as long as possible.
